DURHAM – Former Duke men’s lacrosse standout Justin Turri can now add the distinction of hall of famer to his long list of lacrosse accolades. The West Islip, N.Y., native recently was selected as part of the 2023 Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame as announced by the organization this week.
A two-time All-American for the Blue Devils, Turri ran on Duke’s top midfield line for four seasons. He garnered USILA All-America second team honors in 2011, leading the Blue Devils to the NCAA semifinal round. Turri started 65 of his 73 games played at Duke and finished his career with 70 goals and 52 assists for 122 points. He ranked 28th on Duke’s career points list upon graduation in 2012 and was sixth in NCAA Tournament career points (29) by a Blue Devil.
Turri was a crucial piece to the Blue Devils’ first NCAA Championship in 2010. The West Islip High School product started 18 games and ranked fourth on the team in points (37). He scored at least one point in 18 games and chipped in a goal in the title win over Notre Dame. In the four games en route to the crown, Turri registered 10 points from six goals and four assists.
After graduation, Turri went on to a successful professional career in both Major League Lacrosse and the Premier Lacrosse League. He was the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Most Improved Player of the Year as well as being named a MLL All-Star.
Prior to arriving in Durham, Turri helped lead West Islip to a 66-3 record and two state championships. He finished his scholastic career with 138 goals and 84 assists for 222 points. He was a USA Lacrosse and Under Armour All-American.
Turri remained in the lacrosse community following his playing career. He currently is in his first season as the head coach at St. John’s and will make his debut Feb. 11 when the Red Storm takes on Manhattan.
