DURHAM – Former Duke standout wide receiver Clarkston Hines will be inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in April, announced on Tuesday by the organization.

Hines, a native of Chapel Hill, N.C., lettered four seasons (1986-87-88-89) at Duke, and established school, ACC and NCAA records during his career with the Blue Devils.

While in Durham, the consecutive First Team All-America pick in 1988 and 1989 caught 189 career passes for 3,318 yards and 38 touchdowns. He three times earned First Team All-ACC honors and graduated as Duke’s career leader in receptions, receiving yards, touchdown receptions and 100-yard receiving games (18). He still ranks as the ACC’s all-time leader in touchdown catches and 100-yard receiving games, while being the only player in league history to record three 1,000-yard receiving campaigns.

In his senior campaign of 1989, Hines caught 61 passes for 1,149 yards and 17 scores. He was named ACC Player of the Year and helped Duke to a share of the ACC title and a trip to the All American Bowl. In addition, he received the McKevlin Award as the top male athlete in the ACC.

Enshrined into the Duke Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010, Hines was a ninth-round choice of the Buffalo Bills in the 1990 NFL Draft.

Hines is joined in the 15-member North Carolina Hall of Fame induction class by Rick Barnes, Jason Brown, Jeff Davis, Donald Evans, Tom Fazio, Ellen Griffin, Tom Higgins, Bob “Stonewall” Jackson, Trudi Lacey, Ronald Rogers, John Sadri, Jerry Stackhouse, Curtis Strange and Rosie Thompson.
