Weekends Only announces the furniture store is going out of business – News-Leader

A Springfield furniture store announced it is going out of business.

Weekends Only Furniture & Mattress will liquidate all locations, including its Springfield store at 3850 S. Campbell Ave. A news release from the retailer also said that owner Tom Phillips is retiring.

The furniture retailer was one of the first stores to open Friday through Sunday, which was “designed to save customers money,” the news release stated.

Brothers Tom and Dave Phillips opened Weekends Only in 1997 in St. Louis.

“The Phillips family opened Phillips Mercantile in 1937 in downtown St. Louis, and with five store expansions across the area, two in Indiana and one in Springfield, Missouri, the Phillips family has been part of countless families and their homes for 85 years,” the news release stated.

Total liquidation begins at the Springfield location Thursday and the store will be open every day of the week. Store hours and details of the sale are available on the website at www.weekendsonly.com.

Sales will include discounts on furniture, mattresses, home accessories and rugs.

Weekends Only will close permanently after its eight-store liquidation ends.
